The City of Charlottesville is excited to announce a new recycling program, effective July 1, 2014. During the last two weeks of June, City residents will receive a 95-gallon wheeled recycling cart that will replace the current 18-gallon bins. Beginning in July, the new recycling carts can be placed at the curb on regular trash pickup days every other week. Informational packets with a comprehensive schedule and additional details will be distributed with the new carts.
The primary goal of the program is to encourage City residents to recycle more. Additionally, the new contractor will accept more types of recyclable items, including all plastics #1-#7. This bi-weekly initiative will decrease wear on City streets and residents can save money on trash stickers.
Size adjustment forms and additional information can be found at www.charlottesville.org/recycling. Follow @CvillePW for updates regarding recycling.

Cooler weather is here and brings us back into the landscaping season again. We will be giving Notice to Proceed to Branders Bridge to complete the initial plantings along the Meadow Creek Interceptor corridor in areas that were not completed in the spring. These areas include:
- City Gardens area off Morton Drive
- Area between Hearthwood Apartments to Pepsi Place/Brookmill
- Radio tower site at Melbourne/Park Street
- Old Meadow Creek WWTP site at the end of Pen Park Lane at the contractor staging area
We will also be performing a one-year warranty inspection on the remaining plantings so you may see RWSA staff, our landscape architects from Williamsburg Environmental Group, or the landscaping contractor out marking plants for replacement in other areas along the sewer alignment including:
- Meadow Creek Golf Course
- Locust Meadows to Holmes Avenue
- Holmes Avenue to Rio Road
- Greenbrier Park to Brookmill/Pepsi Place
Fall planting is anticipated to take several months and we appreciate your patience during this process. Please let me know if you have any questions.
